Sir Paul McCartney : Reflects 'Emotional' White House Gig
Sir Paul McCartney has praised US President Barack Obama , saying he's "a fan" and that the gig he played at the White House - picking up the Gershwin Prize for Popular Song - on January 2 was 'very emotional.'
In an interview with Billboard, the former Beatle spoke about his first ever visit to the White House, admitting "I'm a fan of the president . I believe that's he's been dealt a bad hand. He came into that job with a lot of difficulties on his plate that wasn't of his creation."
The idea of playing in the White House was very interesting. We wondered what the acoustics would be like , but they turned out to be great. So we had a great time, just the event of it all. We was all very excited. from me, myself , to the lowliest crew member, we were all buzzing," he added.
McCartney's emotional highlight, he said, was performing 'Ebony and Ivory' with soul legend Stevie Wonder in front of the first family.
To sing it live for the very first time with the very first black president there, it suddenly gave a great significance to the song," he said.
Sometimes you write a song in a certain era and its got a certain kind of significance. I don't think I would have imagined then that it would be quite so soon that America would elect a black president. It wasn't that soon, but it was relatively short period of time. To sing it with Stevie in front of President Obama was very emotional. The lyrics to the song suddenly seemed to have more significance to me in that setting."
The gig also featured appearances by Foo Fighters' Dave Grohl, White Stripes' Jack White and Elvis Costello, amongst the studded line-up.
My spin: Thanks Sir Paul, the PIC's think President Obama is a great guy also.
Kicking back and really having fun.
My dear sweet lady,
ReplyDeleteThe weekend is upon us and this is lay back time, just eating, drinking and enjoying family.
You are half right about my family, the ones that was under my roof. Mae, hers and mine.
I made many enemies in the lower class of want to be gangsters after my dear sister's husband was killed. I retuned with her and kids in tow to Reno. I knew it was not going to be easy, after getting them settle with my dear Rosa, I continued on to Vegas where I had friends and connections, they also was from Queens, I knew I could count on them to help me out this jam. my dear lady that was the first time I got my hands dirty but not the last, I was determined to protect my family at all costs and that promise still stands.
We made quite a few trips to the desert over the years to look at the cactus, sand domes and rattle snakes if you are following my lead.
Yes I am old school and wanted my son to settle down, married or not, it was only a matter of time before he hit a homerun.
I was born in Queens , my grandfather was from the old country and my father is the first generation born on American soil. matter of fact my grandmother was pregnant with my dad.I am told it was a tough life everyone was happy and well fed, my grandfather had a little deli and fruit and vegetable place and was told he did quite well. I will say my dear ladies, we, italians are a hearty bunch.
At 17 or 18 it was join the boys or work in the deli, I knew it was more out there for me.
Vegas here I come,my friend was building the Stardust and that was my first stop and he took me in hand and showed me the ropes. What a great guy he was and he told me Reno was wide open and he would help me get my start, and the rest is history, little dirt got under the fingernails along the way.
Gina is a nice lady and I would liked her to go into someting else besides boxing and the weight lifting too many muscles for a woman. I hear Gina lost her last fight to another young lady early this year. Gina' s dad is a great guy and support her in all she does. Now my dear lady more to come over the days and you stay well and cool.
How is your dear husband bearing up under the heat, we men can take more heat than the ladies I think.
How is your dear mother I hear she will eat you up and spit you outm my kind of lady, as you know we like our ladies with a lot of fire.
Tell your mother I don't think I know the Romeo she's referring too, but a lot of italians think they are Romeos and I, myself has been quilty of using the name a few times myself.
I still have some more to answer, but I will get there one day, it feels good going down memory lane and reminising about the old days,my son and I do it quite often, he's writing a journal for his kids, he says he will put about 5 or 6 copies in book form for my grands My son is finally letting my daughter read it. My son says he wants the correct version not the ones they have floating around on the web.
So dear lady, I will leave you now and hope your weekend is nice and cool. Talk later, keep a watch out for me I may pop up anywhere .
G.
Dear G
ReplyDeleteSunday will find me tearing around the lake in a boat towing my twins behind on a big innertube( If I can get Brian to pick one up)
The weather has cooled a bit.Enough to be able to regain a little energy and move a bit.It has been a disabling heat wave. Everyone was so much more cheerful today.
From what I have read about Queens, it was, and no doubt still is, a very tough area and you had to be tough to survive there.
I guess you were very aware that you were making enemies at that time. It must have been dangerous for all of you. You were a ballsy guy.
I don't suppose the men responsible for the death of your brother-in-law were ever given justice.
I understand when you work with those good old boys you have to pay your dues and prove your loyalty, whatever that means. But the fact that you broke free and became independant of them is quite a feat. You must have been highly motivated. Perhaps it was the vow you made to yourself to protect your family at all costs.
One article said you bought up a lot of land in Reno way back when you started. I thought that showed a lot of foresight for a young guy who had no guarantee there would be any growth there.
Of course, that could be one of the bullshit articles scattered over the net.
Or,maybe on one of your trips to look at the cacti you had a revelation. If true, it was a brilliant thing to do, even if you just let the land sit for a few years.
It is a super idea of your son's to keep a journal and chronicle all the events in your life correctly. That's what I was talking about. An accurate record of the trials and triumphs so your grandchildren can appreciate it all.
But I am still holding out for Bobby DeNiro in the movie version and Nee and I think Johnny Depp should play you as a young man.
She is so happy that she has been allowed to read that journal. It meant a lot to her.
Gina is an absolutely gorgeous woman. What a body! She is so NOT too muscular. And she has a beautiful smile. She has her own fan club.
I think you are proud of her and all the kids you raised and their kids.I know how you feel.
Of course, there is always that one kid you look at and scratch your head and say,"where the hell did he come from?"
My husband is not too bad.The cancer kicked the crap out of him and its a long road back. We haven't even dealt with the prostate cancer yet but it is a slow moving cancer so there is a little time.
As for Nana, she would have made a great negotiator, shall we call it, for the gentlemen in Queens. She would have loved the work. The only weapon she'd need is her walking stick. She could cripple a guy with it. She may be an old barricuda, but she's mine and I love her.
Have a most enjoyable weekend, Your cyber-pal...J
