Mel Gibson's decision to make a movie about an ancient Jewish hero Judah Maccabee is stirring up controversy , and now some organizations are making their outrage known.
Rabbi Marvin Hier of the Simon Wiesanthal Center tells Gossip Cop it's "proposterous" and "an insult" that Gibson , long accused of anti-Semitism , would be preparing a film on the life of Judah Maccabee .
"Mel Gibson is no Judah Maccabee ," says Hier.
Hier compared the plans of taking "Barnie Madoff out of jail and having him play the chairman of the Security and Exchange Commission."
Meanwhile , the Anti-Defamation League has released a statement asking Warner Bros. to remove Gibson from the project explaining , "As a hero of the Jewish people and a universal hero in the struggle for religious liberty , Judah Maccabee deserves better."
It continues , "It would be a travesty to have the story of Maccabee told by one who has no respect and sensitivity for other people's religious views."
Look like Mad Mel has cooked his own goose .
What do you think ?
