(AP Photo/Perry Aycock)The last woman to see Elvis Presley alive, his alleged fiancee Ginger Alden, is sharing new details about life with the King of Rock 'n' Roll, including the night he proposed to her.
"He took me by the hand, went into his bathroom, which was his sanctuary, seated me in a chair and said many beautiful words to me." Elvis and Alden reportedly got engaged in early 1977, although the two never married.
Alden spoke exclusively with NBC in a rare interview and showed off the ring he gave her as well as a TLC necklace, which she says symbolized acceptance into his 'inner circle.' She also shared information about the tragic day when Elvis died.
"It was something none of us expected. It's still hard to this day."
Elvis died Aug. 16, 1977, in his home in Memphis, Tennessee. He was 42 years old. Although rumors swirl as to how and why Elvis died, his friend and physician Dr. George Nichopoulos reported in 2010 that 'The King' might have died from 'chronic constipation.'
Since Elvis' death, Alden has given just a handful of interviews, including one with E!: "I fell back asleep and then I remember Elvis was getting up. I said, 'What's the matter?' and he said he was going to the bathroom to read and the last thing I said to him was, 'Don't fall asleep,' and he said, 'I won't,' and then he walked into the bathroom."
She told NBC after that she found him over the toilet and felt his last breath. The NY Daily News reports that Ginger claims The King promised her "the wedding of the century" before they went to sleep at Graceland.
In the book, she writes: ""Elvis looked as if his entire body had completely frozen in a seated position while using the commode and then had fallen forward, in that fixed position directly in front of it."
Alden's recent interview might be an effort to promote her new book titled "Elvis and Ginger: Elvis Presley's Fiancee and Last Love Finally Tells Her Story."
That book, which was just recently released, and is scoring more negative reactions than positive ones.
On Amazon.com, reviewers criticized Alden for still trying to make money off the dead rockstar. Some claimed there were factual errors in the book and in Alden's story, even questioning whether her engagement to Elvis was real.
But other reviewers defended Alden, with one writing "THANK YOU GINGER FOR SHARING THE TRUTH WITH THE WORLD BECAUSE YOU ARE THE REAL DEAL!"
Alden's book goes more in depth about Elvis' life and death and how she's persevered since his passing. You can also watch her full interview with NBC at Today.com.
Thanx Abe
