Oscar Pistorius Still to Be Handed a Sentence, Still Can Race

Olympic and Paralympic track star Oscar Pistorius standing in trial.

Oscar Pistorius, whose full name Oscar Leonard Carl Pistorius, is a South African sprint runner who is known for competing in able-bodied international running competions with both his legs amputated. Pistorius had been acquitted of murdering his girlfriend over a year ago but the case had been closed since, with the verdict standing as not guilty of murder but guilty of culpable homicide.

In February of 2013, Pistorius shot his girlfriend Reeva Steenkamp and was acquitted of murder in the subsequent trial. While the Olympian acknowledges the fact that he indeed shot his girlfriend, he says that he had done so after mistaking her for a possible intruder.

After the trial, it was unclear on whether Pistorius' career as an Olympic marathon sprinter would continue - or at least the Paralympics leadership would allow him to. Still, he is still to face sentencing for his charges, which could range from a suspended sentence and a fine, to as much as 15 years in prison.

Even so, if Pistorius is in a position to compete in any races before his sentencing, the International Paralympic Committee wouldn't be able to do anything to stop him from returning to the track as the "Blade Runner."

"If that athlete was entered and had gained the qualification we would not be a legal situation where we could deny that athlete the right to compete," the IPC President Philip Craven said. "There has never been any intention to promote any reinstatement of any sort," he added.

  1. This is so wrong , if he was a working stiff like me and so many others that didn't have the money for those high price lawyers , we would be in jail . Like you and others I wonder why he is being treated with kid gloves ?
Take a look at Oscar , every picture you see of him he has that smirk on his face , even when he was puking . Witchy and Genie , it seems like Oscar is only going to get a slap on the wrist and continue with his sorry life . Is it this month the judge suppose to hand down the sentence ? I am all over the blogs each day . Thanks for letting me hang out with you ladies .

  2. Howdy Ardis ,
Yes I do so agree that it's so wrong and no justice for the victim ... as in this case ...
Kid gloves you say . Ardis , wonder no further , Money , know people in high places and don't have respect for his fellow man ... people of that sort thinks they are entitled to whatever they see or want .
I do so agree with you about the slap on the wrist ... if that happens , they should take the judge and her assistants and put them in jail with bread and water .
I thank you for visiting us each day , you are a loyal fan and we do appreciate it . Hang out with us and bring your family and friends .

  3. That just ain't fair PIC.
Smarmy, smug little bastard should rot in hell for what he did to Reeva and her family. He decided that if he couldn't lock her away and keep her exclusively for himself, then no one could have her. And he knew he would get away with it. Had the judge in his pocket all along.
    Lotsa luv
