Helen Gurley Brown, the legendary former editor of Cosmopolitan, has died.
She was 90.
The news was announced on Monday by Hearst, the company behind the magazine where Brown spent 32 years helping to influence pop culture, publishing and the American woman.
She first came to prominence with her 1962 book, "Sex and the Single Girl," joining Cosmopolitan as editor in 1965 and serving until 1997.
"Helen Gurley Brown was an icon. Her formula for honest and straightforward advice about relationships, career and beauty revolutionized the magazine industry," said Hearst CEO Frank Bennack, Jr. in a statement.
He added, "She lived every day of her life to the fullest and will always be remembered as the quintessential ‘Cosmo girl.’ She will be greatly missed."
Brown was married for 51 years to legendary film producer David Brown, who died in 2010.
