Former President George W. Bush has been busy settling into his post-White House life as a painter, but he still has a few things to say about politics.
In a recent interview with People magazine, he admitted he does have an issue with the current climate in the country.
Said Bush, "I don't like the racism and I don't like the name-calling and I don't like the people feeling alienated. Nobody likes that."
He further noted that the political climate in Washington, D.C. is "pretty ugly."
Nonetheless, he did express hope, commenting, "I'm optimistic about where we'll end up...We've been through these periods before and we've always had a way to come out of it. I'm more optimistic than some."
When asked if he planned to inject himself into the current political situation, he said that he does not, but mentioned, "However, at the Bush Center we are speaking up."
The center has a number of programs that aid immigration and support those choosing to make a life in the United States, notes the Huffington Post.
In a recent interview on NBC's Today show, Bush noted that he is in favor of an immigration policy "...that's welcoming and that upholds the law."
Regardless of his good ol' hard headed, Texan politics, GW is a decent and fair man and stuck to the tenets of your constitution. He blundered in Iraq but his motive was basically to serve and protect his country. He may not be the most brilliant light on the Christmas tree but he is tuned in to the mess Trump is making. Would you rather see old George back in the White House or the guy you got stuck with??
