'Dark Knight' Director Sues Agents Over Movie Profits

"Dark Knight" director Christopher Nolan and his wife just filed a lawsuit -- claiming their former and current agents are clawing at the couple over millions in commissions ... and now, they're asking the court to get them out of the middle.

Nolan and his producing partner wife Emma Thomas filed the lawsuit today in L.A. County Superior Court, claiming Nolan's current agency WME is staking a claim on profits from movies that were initially shepherded by his previous agency CAA.

CAA still claims it's still owed money on the same projects -- so there's a massive conflict ... and Nolan's caught square in the middle.

According to the lawsuit, Nolan and his wife are willing to pay the commissions they owe, but they're asking a court to decide who gets the money -- so they don't pay one agency and get sued by the other.

FYI -- Nolan's lead agent was fired from CAA earlier this year and subsequently signed on with WME.
