The Taliban has cited Prince Harry's presence as a motivating factor in an overnight attack on a coalition base in Afghanistan that left two U.S. Marines dead and other personnel wounded.
Camp Bastion, a British complex adjacent to U.S. Camp Leatherneck, was the site of the deadly insurgent assault, the latest violent incident in a wave of regional unrest following the release of an anti-Islamic film.
"We attacked that base because Prince Harry was also on it and so they can know our anger," a spokesperson for the organization told the Associated Press. "Thousands more suicide attackers are ready to give up their lives for the sake of the Prophet
A Ministry of Defense spokesperson says the violence occurred about a mile from the section where Harry, who turns 28 on Saturday, was located.
Two American marines were killed and other servicemen wounded by the attack, which featured mortar, grenades and small arms fire.
Last week, the Taliban publicly threatened to kidnap or kill the royal , known as Captain Harry Wales in the military.
As Gossip Cop has reported, the Prince is currently serving a four month tour in the region as an Apache helicopter co-pilot and gunner.
Taliban insurgents -- the group that vowed to kill or kidnap Prince Harry -- attacked a British air base yesterday and killed soldiers ... just a stone's throw from where the royal is stationed in southern Afghanistan.
Taliban insurgents ambushed the British base with heavy weaponry -- mortars ... rockets ... grenades ... and firearms. Two U.S. marines stationed at the base were killed and others injured.
The base is adjacent to Camp Bastion, where Prince Harry is stationed on a four-month combat deployment. No word on where the Prince was when the attack occurred.
A Taliban spokesman said the attacks were motivated by Prince Harry's presence there, saying, "We attacked that base because Prince Harry was also on it and so they can know our anger. Thousands more suicide attackers are ready to give up their lives for the sake of the Prophet."
Britain's defense ministry says they have no plans to cut Harry's deployment short.
As TMZ previously reported, the Taliban has made it clear -- Prince harry is a target ... and they're pulling out all the stops to get him.

Poor Harry is taking a beating from everyone these days.
ReplyDeleteIf he were killed by the Taliban I think the whole world would be screaming for revenge. And we would go for it too. We would be stomping on Arabs left and right.
Hi PIC
Why wait til 'poor Harry' is killed ? Now is the time to step up while he is still alive not wait until he is dead .
ReplyDeleteWhat's needed is a gag order on the media .
I am quite sure other families have felt the same way about their loved ones .
But hey , that's just me ... that's the way I roll.
