Jon Stewart claims he knows Trump is lying because he keeps saying two words: 'Believe me'

ARIS FOLLEY, AOL.COM
Former talk show host and comedian Jon Stewart joined his former colleague Stephen Colbert on "The Late Show" Monday night -- and delivered a scathing anti-Trump rant.

"Trump lies more in one press conference than CNN does in a year — and that's coming from a guy who hates CNN," Stewart said to Colbert at the top of the act.

According to Stewart, who mocked Trump often when he hosted "The Daily Show" up until 2015, there are two words Trump loves to use that "prove" he's lying.

"He constantly says the phrase 'believe me,'" Stewart said. "Nobody says 'believe me' unless they are lying."

But Stewart didn't only take aim at Trump in his rant. When Colbert asked him to weigh in on the White House's decision to bar certain major media outlets from a press briefing, Stewart shifted his critique to the press.

"Let's face facts, you kind of let yourself go a little bit for these past few years. You put on a few pundits," Stewart said addressing the media. "Obsessing, 24 hours a day, seven days a week, about this one guy. 'What's Donny up to?'"

"And the whole time you're chasing after Donny, the rest of us are thinking, 'Can't you see he's an [expletive]?'" Stewart added.

He offered some blunt advice, suggesting that the media should take this opportunity of "self-reflection and improvement" it has during the Trump-era to find a more meaningful use of its time.

"Take up a hobby," Stewart said. "I recommend journalism."

  1. Jon is right. I noticed the same thing. Trump's speech sounded nice but he promised impossible things. You country would go broke trying to do them all. He also exaggerated every number and statistic that came out of his mouth. And told some big whoppers.
But the speech writers cleaned up his act quite a bit.
Jon can really be harshly sarcastic but he's usually right.
    Good post
