Medowlark Lemon, the most famous member of the Harlem Globetrotters, has died.
Lemon played for 22 years, beginning in the 1950s, when the team's popularity rivaled the NBA.
When he started with the team, black NBA payers were almost non-existent.
My son Al worshipped Meadowlark like a lot of kids of his day. He used to practice all his ball tricks and we took him to see the Globetrotters whenever they came to our town. He was a real sports hero in his time.
ReplyDeleteSad to lose good role models for kids.

My brothers loved Meadowlark , I saw him play a couple of times at the Municipal Auditorium where Elvis played lots of time .
ReplyDeleteIt a shame old Cosby won't have people speaking nicely of him when he did .
