'Treme' Actor Found Dead In Mississippi River

NEW ORLEANS : Actor Michael Showers , whose body was pulled from the Mississippi River   Wednesday morning , suffered from depression and had been diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis earlier this year .

An autopsy still needs to be preformed but the preliminary cause of death is drowning , according to St. Bernard Sheriff's Office .

Showers was an actor on the HBO series "Treme." His co-star Wendell Pierce posted on his Twitter account : "Rest In Peace to my co-star Michael Showers . 'Capt . Guidry' on TREME . Her will be a lasting part of our New Orleans story and television history."

Showers suffered from severe depression and anxiety , and was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis in March 2011 , according to his girlfriend .

Showers, 45 , has acted on several television series , including , "Treme," which is shot locally and airs on HBO . He played the role of Capt. John Guidry , in season two of the series , which included several crime and police story lines.

A spokesman for the St Bernard Sheriff's Office said Showers lived in Chalmette with his girlfriend , who had reported him missing on Tuesday .

Authorities said Showers girlfriend hadn't heard from him since Monday night around 11 p.m. when he apparently went into the French Quarter with a friend and did not return .

Authorities said a steamboat captian spotted Showers , 45 , floating in the river between the St. Louis and Toulouse street wharfs around 11:15 a.m.

Authorities are not saying if they think foul play is involved.

Michael Showers' credits also include : "the Vampire Diaries," I Love You Phillip Morris,"  ... "Traffic" and the upcoming  "Colombiana."

RIP Michael Showers ... you will be missed  .
