Jay Leno : NBC Won't Pull The Plug Prematurely

Jay Leno will be beached when his contract is up ... but not a day before -- this according to sources connected to NBC.

Jimmy Fallon will be replacing Jay on "The Tonight Show" when Jay's contract is up in September, 2014. There's been a buzz that NBC may not want to wait and will make the change before Jay's contract expires. Not gonna happen.

Informed sources connected with the network tell TMZ ... when Jay renegotiated his contract during the Conan O'Brien mess, he demanded and got several penalty clauses that would make NBC take an ENORMOUS financial hit if they pull the plug early.

We do not know specifically how much of a penalty NBC would have to pay, but we're told Jay made it so big, it would be too much for NBC to swallow.

Just a thought :
JAY LENO is an oddity, an aberration when it comes to THE TONIGHT SHOW....both in looks, style, comfort and easiness. As he ages, it becomes even more discomforting late at night to ease into THE TONIGHT SHOW.
--------------------------------------------------------------------
JIMMY FALLON is NO CURE for THE TONIGHT SHOW! FALLON peaked on Saturday Night Live and seems STUCK in his SNL resume of skit humor.....not what viewers are looking for on THE TONIGHT SHOW.
--------------------------------------------------------------------
NBC "suits" are chasing their tails. NBC "suits" have received their Doctorate of FAILURE degrees many times over. NBC can't seem to focus on the HOST talent that will pass the test of time.
--------------------------------------------------------------------
You won't get the mention of "that perfect host" here....NBC honchos are paid the BIG BUCKS find THAT unique host!
-------------------------------------------------------------------
NBC, you can wine, dine and bitch and moan, but as viewers we will ultimately do the CHOOSING with our REMOTES!
