Asked by US TV talk show host Oprah Winfrey when she knew it was over, Jenny said: " The first thing is, when it's not fun anymore, you need to start investigating, do an inquiry into the relationship."
The 37-year-old star - who has an eight-year-old son Evan with ex-husband John Asher - also insisted she had never even considered a reconciliation with the 48-year-old actor.
When Oprah questioned her about a possible reunion, she replied: "God, another good question. I didn't even think about that one."
Jenny recently admitted she is enjoying being single and feels more "peaceful" since moving from Los Angeles to Las Vegas.
She said: "I'm enjoying the single life tremendously!
"I was never really a fan of Los Angeles. Coming out to Las Vegas, believe it or not, I feel more peaceful.
How it all Started For Jenny
JENNY MCCARTHY is still stunned by how quickly she became a Playboy Playmate - an hour after showing up unannounced for a talent shoot.
The model/actress plucked up the courage to visit the publication's Chicago, Illinois headquarters after the cruel boss of a city modelling agency called her in to tell her she'd never make it in the business.
Devastated, MCCarthy ran across the road and into the Playboy building because she simply couldn't bear to return to the Polish grocery store where she had her day job. And that's where the magic started.
initially deterred by a snooty receptionist, who told her she couldn't just walk into the pages of the men's magazine, Jenny was waiting for the elevator when an executive told her to try out as a Playmate at a photo shoot. She recalls, "I put on a bikini... I didn't know how to pose; it was like a mugshot.
"I went home and within one hour, and this is not an exaggeration, Playboy called and said, 'You're Miss October!'"
But MCCarthy admitted there was a huge shock in store for her the first time she disrobed for the magazine's photographer. She added, "He says, 'Lose your undies...'so I did and all of a sudden I hear, 'Woah!'
"I see them talk to the make-up artist and the make-up artist comes walking over and she goes, 'They said they'd never seen anyone as hairy as you in their entire lives.'
"I said, 'Well, I'm half Polish!'"( what does that even mean?)
The star was further shocked when the photographer and his assistant came closer and started staring at her genitalia: "He (photographer) goes, 'I say we just light the heck out of it... it's like roadkill.'"
The rest is history. She became a model, an actress and a very popular Playboy Pin-up.
Just a little word of advice, Jenny, from an old married woman; base your next relationship on a bit more than fun.
