Jacie Evancho is a little girl with a big voice and the show that made Susan Boyle an overnight sensation will no doubt be responsible for this unlikely little opera singer's fame and fortune also. Now, the tiny 10-year-old is at the centre of a huge debate because of a performance during which she is accused of lip synching.
YouTube viewers voted for Jacie to compete on America’s Got Talent. But the transformation of her voice in the three years since she started voice training is so remarkable, some have questioned whether she was lip synching.
New Zealand opera conductor John Rosser was shown footage of Jacie's performance. He says he believes Jacie was in fact singing live.
“I wouldn’t necessarily have thought it was feasible but, there are enough things when you watch the clip, that show she is actually a 10-year-old doing this,” he says.
America’s Got Talent judge Piers Morgan said the performance was one of the most extraordinary he had ever seen.
“It is absolutely amazing,” said Sharon Osborne, who is also a judge on the NBC show. “I can’t believe it.”
The network insists it was all real, while the talented tween – barely double figures - stands to become an instant millionaire.
